Choral Arts Recognized
The Iowa Choral Directors Association will be recognizing outstanding choral educators at their annual summer symposium. Nominations were reviewed by a committee and the following individuals were selected for their excellence in growing and supporting choral music in the state of Iowa.
● Emerging choral educator: Grace Huber & Tony Dam
● Outstanding elementary/middle school educator: Kelly Truax & Jennifer Walker
● Outstanding high school/post secondary educator: Meg Byrne & Trent Buglewicz
● Outstanding church/community choral educator: Michael Sauer
● ICDA Northwest District: Jolene Schaffer
● ICDA Northeast District: Duane Philgreen
● ICDA North Central District: Ernie Reineke
● ICDA Central District: Landon Stalzer
● ICDA East Central District: Bridget Owen
● ICDA Southeast District: Tracy Madsen

The awards for outstanding choral advocate will be presented to the following:

● Greg Batenhorst, superintendent of Mount Vernon Schools
● Lowell Olivier-Shaw, friend of the arts Central College facilities
● Jeremey Malenosky, choir parent at Sioux City Bishop Heelan High School
The recognition ceremony will be held at Central College Douwstra Auditorium in Pella Iowa on Wednesday, July 24th at 6:15 pm. The public is invited to attend this event.

Sharing information from Southeast Linn Community Center:
Registration is now open for Southeast Linn Community Center’s annual School Supply Distribution. FREE supplies and backpacks are available to Lisbon and Mount Vernon students, as well as students who are homeschooled in those communities.

Pre-registration is required. Register here or at selinn.org or by calling 319-455-2844. Those who sign up by Friday, May 31st will be entered into a drawing for a gift card.

Distribution will be on Wednesday, August 7th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Lester Buresh Center in Mount Vernon. Community members interested in supporting this event can provide a financial donation, contribute supplies, or volunteer.
